Singapore’s Education Ranked Among Top Five in the World.

Here is good news for students heading toward Singapore for education. According to a recent Global League Table Published by an education firm Pearson, education standard in Singapore has been ranked among top five in the world. The Global League Table ranks 40 best education countries of the world with Finland and South Korea occupying first and second position. Other countries of interest among international students like UK, New Zealand, Canada, Australia and USA are ranked 6th, 8th, 10th 13th and 17th respectively. The last 40th position in the table is occupied by Indonesia.

The ranking has been arrived at after careful study of several relevant parameters such as education system, school entrance age, class size, government spending on education, teacher salaries,  number of people going to University, degree of school choice, culture of learning, educational achievements, cognitive skills, literacy and graduation rate. The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study, and Progress in International Reading Literacy Study assessments was also taken into account.
There is great news for all those working in schools and colleges. The study by Pearson concludes that having a culture that is supportive of learning is vitally important to educational success. While investing in education "undoubtedly reaps rewards", study suggested that a culture of support for education is probably more important. It also added that there was no substitute for high quality teaching. The best performing countries attract top talent, train teachers throughout their careers and allow legitimate freedom too.
The research is designed to help policymakers, school leaders and academics identify the key factors which drive improved educational outcomes.
